Hello.
I’m Jon Reed, a writer and content consultant with 30 years’ experience in publishing.
I have worked in digital media since its earliest days, and have helped thousands of people use it for marketing over the last 20 years, through my writing, teaching, and consultancy. I previously worked in academic publishing for 10 years, including as publishing director for McGraw-Hill.
Through Reed Media I offer digital media content strategy and development to publishers and other organizations. My clients include Taylor & Francis, Hachette, Penguin Books, Pearson Education, HarperCollins, Oxford University Press, Cambridge University Press, Publishing Scotland, and SAGE.
As a professional writer, I research and write content for multiple audiences – always with an eye on SEO and usability. I create clear, readable, well-structured copy, with keywords and calls to action. I was an early adopter of social media, and have helped publishers and authors use it ever since. I conduct social media audits, and create social media marketing strategies and content for clients.
I am also the founder of Publishing Talk, an educational resource for authors. It contains advice from bestselling authors, literary agents, and industry experts. Through Publishing Talk I aim to use my background in publishing and experience in digital marketing to help new and emerging authors write, publish, and market books.
I am an author myself: I wrote Get Up to Speed with Online Marketing (2e, Pearson Business, 2013), and have a new book for authors in the pipeline. I have also co-written a comedy-drama screenplay. I taught on the MA in Digital Media Management at Birkbeck, University of London for many years, and have also guest lectured on several other publishing, writing and digital media courses.
